Some day if God offers me a choice between “Amrit” (immortal drink) and Pina Colada (the tropical delight), can you guess which one will I choose?
Yeah! You guessed it right.
It has to be Pina-Colada!
A brief history!
Pina Colada is believed to have originated about half a century ago in Puerto Rico.
The bartender Don Ramon Portas at Barrachina restaurant in old San Juan, invented the drink by infusing coconut, pineapple and Rum.
Here’s a recipe of this divine Pina Colada drink.
Virgin Pina Colada recipe
1 cup pineapple juice
4 tbsp pineapple (chopped)
4 tbsp tender coconut flesh
4 tbsp coconut milk (thick)
1 cup vanilla ice cream
Red cherries for garnish
- Take coconut milk, coconut flesh and pine-apple juice in a blender and give it a shake.
- Add vanilla ice cream and crushed ice into it and mix it well.
- Add 1 tbsp chopped pineapple in a martini glass (not compulsory) and pour Pina Colada into it
- Garnish it with a piece of pineapple and a red cherry as shown in the picture.
Since, there is no alcohol in the drink, hence the name ‘Virgin Pina Colada’. Has there been alcohol content in it, it would be just ‘Pina Colada’.
Pineapple being a super fruit, is a great source of Vitamin C, high in fibres and very low in terms of calories.
The best thing I like about this recipe is the killer combination of fresh and tender coconut along with a twist of Pineapple.
